Glasson Basin Wind and Waves

Glasson Basin needs solid moorings. As can be seen from the video clips below, winds can build up waves to a surprising degree. This is not a sheltered inland canal marina: it is a small lake just at the edge of an exposed western coast.

Here is a clip of the canal as it enters the basin. The far wall at the extreme left is where 60 narrowboat moorings are planned, on a floating pontoon with finger berths at right angles to the breeze.

Even with well constructed two pile jetties affording secure fore and aft mooring end on to the prevailing westerlies, damage is far from unknown, and berthing can be problematic even in lighter airs. This is the (sheltered!) end of one of the jetties.
